January 2025 Availability Update: January marks the start of a new laying season, and our birds are settling into their rhythm. Production can vary as they adjust, making wait times a little unpredictable. Our focus remains on providing you with fertilized and fresh eggs, and while we can’t guarantee exact timelines, we’ll do our best to keep you updated every step of the way. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we welcome the new season!

You are purchasing hatching eggs from our silver pencil laced satin project breeding pen. Our silkie bloodlines are breeder quality and without major defects. Please remember that recessive traits can ALWAYS pop up and that breeders only keep a few of the very best every season. In addition, we do have satins and frizzles in this coop. Which means that the Cochin genetics may pop up from time to time. Please be aware of this when purchasing from this coop.

When you receive a batch from our Silver-Laced Satin pen, you’ll get a beautiful mix of eggs laid by 15 different hens. Some lay blue eggs, others lay classic colors, and they come in a variety of sizes.

But here’s where it gets really fun—each egg is a surprise! Our flock setup creates a completely random combination of genetics, even if we could track which hen laid which egg. Both of our roosters are Smooth Satin (one is also a Naked Neck), so no matter which hen lays an egg, the possible outcomes remain the same. Because of this, every egg we send is simply labeled SLS, and when they hatch, you’ll get a variety of stunning feather types:

✔️ Silkie

✔️ Silkie Frizzle

✔️ Smooth Satin

✔️ Satin Frizzle

Every hatch is a blend of possibilities, and no two groups will be exactly the same! You’ll get a mix of textures, patterns, and that signature silver-laced beauty in each chick.

NPIP & AI certified farm located in north Florida. We test for fertility monthly and keep at least 1 rooster per 6 hens to ensure fertility in all our flocks. We CANNOT guarantee your hatch rate. Shipping hatching eggs is a gamble. Please DO NOT purchase our hatching eggs if you don’t understand the perils of shipping hatching eggs. We do our very best to collect and package them so that you have a great hatch rate. But we CANNOT control the post office.

Please check out our new hatching guide at https://akersfarm.com/pages/hatching-guide.

Please do not wash your eggs prior to incubating them. In general, we recommend incubating your eggs at 100F at a humidity of 40-45%. After 7 days candle your eggs and discard any that do not show growth. At day 18 candle your eggs again. At this time place all the developing eggs into lockdown at a humidity of 50-60%. They should hatch within a couple days, usually by day 21 of incubation. Please make sure to be prepared prior to incubating your eggs on good hatching practices! I cannot replace your eggs due to a bad hatch. Once they have left my hands it’s impossible for me to control all the variables. If you need additional assistance with your hatch please contact me!

Hatching eggs

Hatching eggs are collected freshly 2-4x a day. We only offer hatching eggs if we are able to collect your eggs within 5 total days. Typically, we can collect your order in as little as 1-2 days. However, we may have multiple orders when you place your order, so please check the processing times on each breeds description. We typically pull the inventory on a specific breed if the wait will be longer than a month. If you need a better estimate please contact us directly.

Shipping

Hatching eggs are shipped individually wrapped in bubble wrap. Each egg is placed into an egg carton, which is also bubble wrapped. This box is filled with shredded paper for buffer. The box is then placed into a second, larger box and buffered. This allows the best hatch rate.

Plants are shipped Monday-Wednesday only. They are packaged in rolled cardboard and poly fill to avoid breakage.

Care information

Hatching eggs should be treated as described in our hatching guide.

Plants should be kept in their pots and allowed 1-2 weeks to acclimate to your home prior to repotting.
